It’s a provoking color best known to symbolize fulfillment, wisdom and magic. Purple is a rare color in nature. By combining the stability of coolness of blue and the hot fiery energy of red, the hue lives on its own as a representation of creativity and independence. It is no coincidence that these attributes are fundamental to the composition of Purple Door. (PD).
More than 10 years ago, Sam Kennedy took the branding, storytelling and public relations expertise she cultivated at Weber Shandwick, Bates Advertising and BBDO and applied her love of communications strategy to form PD.
Sam began the business in a virtual agency model. She sat inside a makeshift office in her garage, recognizable to the outside world by a robustly colored purple door – Behr’s Plum Swirl – now a proven harbinger of the company’s success.
By providing senior level staff and counsel, without virtually any overhead, Sam and her team were able to break free from the traditional agency structure and stretch client budgets farther than a large organizational model would allow. The team harnessed their collective strengths and continues to specialize in developing strategic integrated marketing campaigns founded on key insights and research to create meaningful and measurable results.
The longevity of the agency is a testament to the success of its business model, strength of client relationships and stellar brand building achievements across disciplines. Not many agencies can boast that each client on its roster was the result of a referral. Without proactively pitching new business, every account has come knocking on the Purple Door.
As the company has grown, the same value principles of its early life hold true. Now with co-headquarters in Corte Madera, Calif., Chicago and New York, Purple Door still operates modest shared office space to translate client dollars into results versus rent.
